Bridging the gap between CAD and EDA
Nowadays, a significant number of EDA designers' use mechanical CAD tools (such as AutoCAD®, Solid Works® and Pro Engineer®) for layouts of MEMs, RF/Microwave and optical components, which contain geometries that have not traditionally been the focus of today's main-stream layout tools; such as arcs, curves, circles and other multi-polygon shapes. Problems usually occur when converting their CAD drawings to EDA data for the generation of high resolution masks, and other tooling.
In addition, designers' face problems when translating from EDA back to CAD for documentation purposes and data input into electronic simulation software to perform analysis.
